Hi there,
Is this siemens relay for the headlamp? Can I remove it entirely and wire up a new headlamp without a relay?
Also does anyone know what this blue cylinder is from? I removed my wiring months ago and don't have a label on this wire... for location, the cap is from the radiator.

1, no, the relay is most likely not for the headlight. BMW did not use a relay for the headlight from the factory. The headlight gets it's power thru the high/low switch directly and it is fed from the "load shed relay" located in the electrical box below the fuel tank.
2, it looks like the blue item is a "male/female" factory splicing connector. What are the wire colors on each side of it, ie going "in" and "out".
Ok, so what do you have on the bike that appears to "not" be connected to something yet that uses 2 wires. Cooling fan? Water temp sensor? Horns?

Connection between ABS dash switch and ABS? Is that pretty green wire connected to it? If so, where does it go?

i think that is the inputshaft outputshaft combination sensor relay...
The trouble always starts when you realize you didn't write down the combination.

The relay is for the windscreen.
The blue cylinder is the connector for the ABS switch, as Laitch says.

You guys are kings amongst men.
I did have abs written on the other side of the cable but on the weekend I told myself i must have been mad ... do we have a button to turn abs on and off?
Is it in a normally on position? (as in, can I remove it and expect it to remain on?) I'm guessing it is because I rode it recently and think I heard the abs kick in even with the cable disconnected.

The button doesn't turn the ABS on and off. It turns the ABS warning light off for 5 minute intervals in a hopeless effort to prevent descent into further madness. Go get the K1100 riders manual from the Repair Guidance Service Manuals section and read all about it. There's also a workshop manual in there, too. The attached is to help continue your incomplete understanding of a bike beyond your intuition.

Not everybody is a natural mechanic, Laitch. Although sometimes I am dismayed by how blind or lazy some seem to be.

That manual has disappointed me time and time again. I'm sure there is good stuff in there and I will check there 1st next time.
