Title: Bmw k100 custom need help and ideas.
Post by: Roland on May 17, 2018, 04:52:18 PM
Hello.  does anyone know a way to take a few pounds off the engine on a bmw k100rt 1985. It seems extraordinarily heavy. Please dont give snarly answers. I was also wondering if anyone had ideas about changing the radiator or making one instead of having that giant loaf on the front of the bike? Its really an eyesoar compared to the rest of the bike. Third anf final question. Has anyone seen or figured out how to move the ignition coils to a more descrete location? There pretty big and are also an eye sore. Thankyou very much for your responses. I look forwadd to reading them.

The engine is pretty minimal and it would be hard to eliminate components in an effort to shed weight.  To what end anyways?  What's the point?

As for the radiator, I've seen a custom designed and built unit that fit under the seat.  It is an expensive proposition, to say the least.

You can try to find coil-overs that have the same characteristics as the OEM coils.

To what end on the engine. I was just seeing if it was possible or if anyone had done it with success. Why not have a lighter bike if you can? Thanks for the response. Do you think ig i were to take copper tubes and run the horizontal where the radiator is and make coupling ends it would have enough cooling potential to be a radiator? Thanks again.

greetings...

these things dont really need radiators... they run fine hot... i bet if you take the radiator and fan off and plumb a couple discrete 2 pass oil coolers ziptied to the frame rails under the tank thats all the radiator you would need as long as air is moving over the coolers you should be getting yeeeehaaaaa...

Maybe all of us can be inspired by this thread (http://www.motobrick.com/index.php/topic,10037.msg85623.html#msg85623) to come up with more ideas.

My earlier thread? I am intrigued by jhonny. Are you joking around or would the bike be fine with that small of heat exchange?

That thread is also outdated. I am currently trying my hand and fabbing up a new frame for my bike. If that goes well i will move on to making a new swinging arm and then potentially a gurder front end for the bike. Its take me a while but i am pretty young so i have the time.
