I’m just throwing this out there since I cannot find a definitive answer to the shift lever free play for a K75. I have been experiencing rough shifting between 1st to 2nd and 4th to 5th.
In neutral the lever has a .75” travel up and down before meeting resistance. Shifting into 1st is a full 1.5” before completely engaging. 2nd, 3rd, 4th and 5th all have a full 1” travel before engaging.
Does this sound normal? This is my first BMW so I don’t have anything to compare it with.
1990 K75 Standard
53K on the clock.
Recent complete spline lube and clutch inspection.
Clutch cable properly adjusted.
Fresh 80wt gear oil.

Shit lever is right :eek: Thanks for all the feedback. Looks like I'm gonna have to pull the tranny to get that grub screw tightened up.

Damn! My bike doesn't have a "SHIT" lever. , I knew for their time these bikes were advanced. Fuel injection. ABS. But I have to pull over n stop............unless I am going well over the posted limit and some fuckin idiot at the intersection pulls out in front o me.

After watching the video, I have determined that shift lever does not have any play. She is tight! :clap: No need to pull the tranny. I guess these bikes have a long throw to engage the gears. Anyhow, I still love my K.
I will soon be posting a review on my experience on my new Shinko tyres.

Also, try more "shit" lever and less clutch. You only have to put a little pressure on the clutch control rod to get disengagement. And it should slip into gear like butter!

+1 A short, quick snatch on the clutch when shifting almost pulls the transmission into the next gear. Barely a half inch of pull is all it needs.

When riding two up with my wife I often don't pull the clutch at all, just very slightly roll of the gas and shift up .. that way there is a less of a chance of the missus headbutting me from behind when I shift!

shifting without clutching the motobrick can reduce clutch life by as much as 50%...

I am sure you are right but searching on the internet I found a huge variance in opinion. I do see videos saying it is bad for the dogs and others saying it is fine but since the clutch is never disengaged I do not see how it can hurt the clutch. Either way the risk of hurting the dogs is enough to make me stop doing, not that I did it a lot in the first place. Shame, a well executed clutchless upshift is very satisfying
