Title: alternate parts fuel pump relay
Post by: daveson on February 18, 2018, 05:43:03 AM
2000 model bmw 318i car
Various other bmw cars have a light green five pin relay
The pins and picture on the case are oriented the same as the bricks fuel relay. A resistor is shown in parallel with the coil. unfortunately i threw away the bad relay from the bike but the car replacement relay's resistor has the colour code green, blue, black, black, brown which i think means 560 OHM's. This bike is new to me but ive done 2,000km using this alternate relay without issue. Hopefully someone has a faulty original to compare resistors.

You should be able to read the complete part number or the last five digits of it (depends on the manufacturer)
Part number is: 61 36 8 373 700.......if the relay is identical.

6136-8 373 700 is the Part No. from BMW 318i, Siemens relay, colour; light green.

1459 5743 is the Part No. from '86 k100 RT BMW relay,    colour; black.

Bit confused now, i think next time the tank comes off ill put an original back in and keep the green one in the boot as a spare.

You can use both......the black one is a earlier model made by Wehrle.
The green one is what you would get if you order one from BMW today, but made by Tyco.

Bonus, good to know. (also i popped the cap on an original to find that the resistance is also 560 OHM's)

So in conclusion the 318i relay is the same?

Yep, lots of other model BMW cars have the same relay,  it's light green in colour. I doubt all 318i models of all years would have it, but if it's light green with five pins, check the part number,  it will probably be the same. I've had it in my bike a few years now without problems.

One of them had about five of these relays,  a turbo model,  from memory.

If your bricks relay is the old style (square when looking from the top,  not rectangular) it will work.
