Title: Cases
Post by: bizzaro on January 24, 2018, 02:35:18 PM
Are the mounting brackets universal to all K bikes up to the K1200? I am looking at a naked K75 and am wondering if I can use my cases from my K11 if the mounting brackets from my K11 will Fit on the K75 to carry the cases.  The K75 has no case mounting Brackets.

Yes the mounting bracket for the city / Series III side cases is common between R100 Mystic / K75 / K100 / K100-4V / K1 and K1100.  Part number 46542300037:  http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0574-USA---K569-BMW-K%2075%20C%20(0564,0574)&diagId=46_1269

Thanks Robert. I thought they looked the same.  So is the geometry of the basic frame also the same for all K's up to the 1200 as well??

Apparently that is correct.  That's the nice thing about these BMWs; the reuse of parts between models.

Thanks for asking this   As a new owner of a K75 I've been wondering the same thing, but I've had many other things to worry about first.

Speaking of luggage...
I have been thinking...
Is there some sort of BMW Luggage FAQ somewhere?    If not, could there be?
I've read though FAQs and master thread lists here and elsewhere, and that's one topic I've not seen.

I am new and would be of no help in making one, but I know what questions I've thought about:

I know there are different types or styles of tragkorbs, but how many, what is the difference, and how much does it matter?    Pictures would of course be a big help here.

Dimensions would help me also.  I'll see a certain tragkorb is X litres or cubic inches in size, but sometimes knowing approximate internal length/depth/width is invaluable.

I've read enough to know some latches are a problem.  Which ones?  Or all of them?  Are there good fixes?

Top boxes: What is/was available there?  What mounts on what rack?

Is any of this still made?  What is still made that woks?

---------

I don't mean to be looking for work for someone else, but if anyone knows what's what and is looking for a way to battle the boredom of long winter nights, maybe they could help us less fortunate (more ignorant) with some enlightenment.

Go to the Max BMW parts section and look for the SEARCH function.

Put the part number of the case bracket you need for your K75 and hit the button.  The function will return parts drawings of all the bikes that use that particular part.

Left case holder p/n 46 54 2 300 037

I did a quick search and found the case holders are used on K100, K1100, K75, R80 and R100 models, a total of 48 bikes.

But that's so hard!   No, actually, I did that a while back, but couldn't remember why that left me thirsty for info...
Until I searched it again just now.
A lot of the pictures in the luggage threads must have been hosted on Photobucket because a lot of the pictures are gone now.   Ordinarily that's not such a bad thing, but these were more or less visual threads, showing the difference between this or that case or rack.
Photobucket really stung a lot of people with that one.

Live in the now?   The now?  Like there is a band newer than Three Dog Night.   I thought buying a 26-year-old motorcycle was already pushing things for modernity.   Stupid technology.
