Title: I'm Trying to be a New Owner
Post by: Barry in IN on November 17, 2017, 07:19:56 PM
As I posted elsewhere, I've found a K100 locally I'm interested in, but can't get the seller to answer the ad.  But hopefully, whether by this way or another, I'll be an owner soon.

I've never owned a K, or even ridden one, but the mechanics of them have always fascinated me. I might even enjoy getting an engine and gearbox and spending the winter tinkering with it on the bench. I've spent worse winters that's for sure.

Welcome to the asylum, be patient and try and get a good one. One that has not been sitting for years.
Regards Martin.

I t looks like I won't be getting that one.  He never replied, and the ad is now gone.

Anyhow, there's a nice K75S in Lebanon with 20K:

Incidentally, it also looks exactly like mine. Weird. Not mine though. Maybe a wee bit high.

Thanks. That one sounds nice. Real nice.   I would actually prefer a K75 I think. Maybe.
Yeah, it's probably a tad high, and more than I was thinking anyway.  But then, that K100 I was looking at was so cheap everything will look high in comparison.

Hey, spring is a long way away.

Got one!  1992 K75S, 12k miles and a little road rash.

K75S's more often than not seem to have some road rash.  Something about all that plastic and a bit topheavy

Question:

The tank roundels are peeling on mine, and I plan to replace them.  The roundel on the tail piece is missing, so I'll be getting one in that size also.

My problem is I don't know what else is missing along those lines.  Mine doesn't have a "K75" badge on the tail.  Should it?   I don't see any marks or evidence that it ever had one, so I don't know if they all had them or if it was only on some
model years.
There is nothing on the front of the fairing either.  No "K75" or "K75 s" or anything.  Again, no evidence of it.  Should it have one?
Thanks

There should be roundels on either side of the tank (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0574-USA---K569-BMW-K%2075%20C%20(0564,0574)&diagId=16_0808) (70mm diameter), a roundel on the tail (60mm diameter), a raised "K75" emblem (http://www.realoem.com/bmw/enUS/showparts?id=0574-USA---K569-BMW-K%2075%20C%20(0564,0574)&diagId=52_3687) on the back right side of the tail.  There were no other roundels or emblems on the K75S than these.

OK, so I'm only missing the roundel and "K75" on the tail.   Thanks.

Sounds like somebody repainted the tail cowl and didn't see the need to drop the money BMW wants for badges.

The tank roundel badges are peeled some at the top, like someone tried to help themselves to them.   The roundel on the tail looks the same, except they were successful at getting it.  Torn off with three bubbled spots left behind in the paint.

I'm only saying all this because the evidence doesn't match among them :).   The roundels have been  obviously tampered with, but it didn't look like there had never been a "K75" on the tail.

I need tires, mirrors, turn signals...but knowing what badges to stick on is of dire importance.  Dire.

My 94 k75s does not have a k75 on the tail.   No visible evidence it was ever there or that the bike was repainted.

My 92 k75s has the badge.

Poo.  Now I'm back to my "maybe it had one; maybe it didn't" theory.

I think it would look nice, but without it I'd save enough to buy some spline grease.  Nahhhh.

The local sign guy made some roundels for me a couple years ago.  Cost me $7 each for 4 of them, and they look good even close up.  He can make them any size you want.  He works off of artwork he gets off the internet.

Check your local sign maker.
