Aside from removing the gas cap and ensuring the float isn't stuck, is there any way to trick the low-fuel light into coming on? Any way to test the float? I can't recall if it (in a low gas environment) opens a closed loop, or closes an open one. I almost ran out of gas the other day; it worked before this. I'd like to fool the light into coming on if I can. Is there a way?

take the gas cap off. 4 screws. 30 seconds of effort.

Put some fuel proof nitrile gloves on and after removing the filler cap and surround you will be able to push or lift the float. There is a toothed wheel that can be CAREFULLY manipulated to move the float up or down, if it is not seized. You can also adjust it by bending the float wire.You could short out the wires to your light but this would only determine whether your light is working, not the level of when its working.

Thanks Gents, that part I get, but is let's say it (the gas float assy) is working, and it's the bulb that's out. Or, let's say it's not working and the bulb is out too. I'd like to test both separate and independent of each other.
To get the light to light up, which wires get shorted? Also, and this I can't remember even though I should... In what operation condition does the light come on when everything is working, and there is a low-fuel condition, i.e. key switched on/kill switch off, or, key switched on/kill switch on? Have to be running (like the fuel pump)?
