Title: Starter wont turn freely
Post by: jso5000 on September 26, 2017, 05:46:13 PM
Hello,
New to this forum. First post.
I have a 1989 K100 rs-se.
I just finish rebuilding the starter - new brass bushing, front bearing, brushes, orings etc.
I marked the case prior to the rebuild.
When I reassemble it, the gear is very hard to turn. I mean I have to use pliers to budge it.
Is this normal? If not, any ideas?

Thanks
John

You may have reassembled it upside down and backwards as it should spin freely.

Is the brush aperture upside down?

Thanks for the info.
I watched that video and I believe im ok for the installation of the brush holder.
However, when I disassembled it and found that one of the very thin spacers got wedged in between the
case and the armature (case is highly magnetic and sucked it off the shaft). I believe this resulted in the binding.
I reassembled and it seems fine now.

Thanks for your help and insight.

John
