Title: Cappuccino Fetchers
Post by: Arktasian on September 08, 2017, 09:36:41 AM
Below is a snap shot of the Motobrick folders that were available this weekend (Sept 8th) - I'm adding the image as they may not have been visible to all members, plus have since been removed as of Sept 10th. when site maintenance and folder creation was completed. This is edited from original question offered.
Nothing earth shattering here, but not sure why the moderator secrecy and seeming attitude when folder disappearance seemed worthy of a simple question posted? What for instance does "Arktasian's Adulterated Sector" have to do with me or anything other than a pretty obvious lack of respect? Offered by someone apparently supposed to tend to the site and keep participants civil and on track?

Hopefully just some server-induced whack that can be remedied.

Hopefully it's not something too bad, such a shame as there was a treasure trove of great information

What did I miss, folder seems gone in its entirety  :dunno2:
Missing? It doesn't seem missing? :giggles Looks like we're it! Maybe the ones that didn't have Cafe in their title will appear after the next solar flare.  :yes

Even if it's just a case of giving the cappacino racers some crayons and a their own corner to play in, I'm down with it.

Looks like we're going to have get this new folder rolling!

Maybe this section wasn't being utilized enough and the moderator is holding the old folders hostage.

Had a minute here and searched over there - the only thread I see is "RMB's" electronic gadget post.
Perhaps this is an organizational thing where a sorting of build threads, and otherwise that used to reside in "Project K Bikes" is being presently handled to be relisted later. (I would want to believe in that, otherwise what a waste - even if there are too many Café converts.)

Yeah, my posts just vanished. If I click an old link in an email notification, I'm redirected to this page: http://www.motobrick.com/index.php?topic=10197.new;topicseen#new

I think an intended circle of positive affirmation should be started. I'm now seated facing east. Starting from my left, if 359 members— one-at-a-time—will sit by 1º of increasing rotation, the effect will be tremendous upon completion. For the sake of simplicity, compass readings shall be without declination. My bearing is 090º. Please leave space between yourself and the previous member for coffee cups and handi-wipes. Register your bearing here. :giggles

I seriously doubt the removal of this section was an accident. I think it's more plausible that the anti-customization and anti-cafe attitude has won out on this forum, and that the forum removal is just a way to say "You and your kind are not welcome here."

Yeah, it does seem intentional. What a shame wiping out all that knowledge and documentation...I guess I'm done here if that's the case, and I wasn't even doing a cafe/bobber build. Too bad.

Wouldn't it be nice to get a mod/admin in here and explain what happened?

I had a project thread, which I didn't finish - mostly cuz I've riding and waiting for my next opportunity to get into the project again. I was just thinking about having the frame powdercoated - which of course means lots of other clean-up and restore possibilities. I was gonna go back at look at MLytle's thread for ideas.

Mine project was titled "K75s Two Into One Project" or something like that. I can't find it now - not even in my post-history in my profile. I really liked MLytlte's K75s mid-life refresh thread too. So there's two "restoration" threads, not cafe threads. Then there was a really cool father-son restoration... and lots of other really nice projects documented by experienced wrench-turners. It would nice to have them back. Maybe there should be restoration/renewal/enhance projects - and separate category for projects that are significant modifications, such as cafe bikes and scramblers.

Exactly what is it that needs "help"?

I am no moderator here, but I would make substantial wagers that making demands, assuming comments, threats, or condescending comments won't "help" anything.

S.W.I.M. selflessly gives their time and resources to make this site even possible. To rifle off comments and criticisms at them because you are not perfectly aligned with its structure or policy 100% of the time is really not fair. My previous post was meant to be a friendly reminder for all of us peon's... If you're not in charge, then you're not in charge, and no representation has ever been made by those who are in charge that they give even 1/2 a flip what our opinion of how this site is run or its content.

This site exists to hold valuable information, about a specific item or items, and make that information available to users with an interest in that item. I certainly believe that any valuable information once contained in "Project K bikes" will be restored or migrated to a different location, but if it's not, then it's not. Losing one folder certainly better than losing the entire site, Right? Maybe we should just relax for more than 12 hrs before passing such harsh judgement on the mod's for making changes to THEIR site for reasons we can only speculate.

Meanwhile, if you have found a more valuable single site/source for BMW K bikes, (with or without "Project K Bikes") please tell me the secret address and password for access because my experience has been that a very high majority if not all searches for info regarding my moto result in a post somewhere on motobrick.com.

You posted search instructions like we were being idiots and just needed to search for our content.

Nobody's making threats. People are just a little miffed that a great resource of information and threads that took months/years to create are just gone.

Okay, but if they keep removing content with no warning, there won't be many people left to...well...create content.

Well, lets not get our panties knotted over this - and I'll offer an apology if my initiation of an enquiry is over the line.
Guess a sliver lining is that I haven't posted much yet on changes and tech that may/ may not be construed as "brick worthy", and I'll sit back and watch for hopefully a re-organization of some posts that I would definitely wish to review and learn from.
On the other hand if this is a purge of some kind then I'm glad to learn it nearer the beginning so as to move on (having learned these aren't the droids were after)

Ditto.

It seemed '"brickworthy" to me. I think you were just in the neighborhood when it got bombed (locked). :giggles  Collateral damage. Maybe you're too sexy, too sexy for the board.  :yes Anyway, it's all cached on Google, including the images. There's always the Workshop—well, maybe not always, given current events.   :hehehe

And it's back.
Went from Project K Bikes (a collective folder) to Cappuccino Fetchers (moderator's effort at humor) to current Project Custom Motobricks.
In the absence of any site notification of folders being down for maintenance or editing, why the heavy drama then?

I have to say - not sure I like pouring my handwork into a category classified as "Queered Out".  In other words, pretty stock and not queer at all.
Then put it in the other category, fer godsake, and hum to yourself until the banjos subside.

Cart it over there box by box. Queer is a lovely, classically descriptive adjective though. Embrace it. Revel in your bikes queered-outness. Maybe your cohort in this section will elevate their game.  (http://www.motobrick.com/Smileys/MB_Smiley/yes.gif)

Keep posting. All will be revealed in the fullness of time.

Do I sense thinly veiled hostility between mod and traditionalist. Put down those handbags at once girls and remember why we are all here. We all love the bike warts and all. I've already learnt so much from the posts from both camps (camp being an appropriate word to use) and find the forum a great resource. My K100 will be a queered out modified bitch. Out, loud and proud.

Queered out BMW pride rally anyone?

Queered out bike???  Not that there's anything wrong with that. :neener:   But it looks like the site structure has changed again to somewhat less divisive categories, which is now classic vs custom.  Personally this makes more sense to this audience and is perhaps less insulting to some.  My two cents, the hard work and expense I put into my stock brick is no more or less worthy than that of what someone puts into a highly modified brick.

Agreed Christopher, I am doing a custom job on an LT but it wasn't the most loved BMW ever to grace the street. There is a saying here in the civilised part of the world. "You can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear".

Well that's utter bollox as many of the project's in these pages proove. The K100 is a great starting point for a custom project and one of the best value for money machines out there. On the other hand One of my neighbours has a K1100 in mint condition and it would be a crime to chop it up. There's definitely room for both in my eyes.

Queer is here but Straight is great.

I will say however that this whole thread seems to have evolved from frustration and bruised ego's. I tried to make light of it, but I would suggest that anyone who has contributed looks back and read what they have written. Were you entirely fair?. Could you maybe be guilty of a little inverted snobbery?.

I say enjoy your bikes, enjoy this goldmine of information, and most of all Don't take it, or yourself so seriously. If you don't want to play get out of the playground.

Skunky the cappuccino fetched
