Title: Radio repair
Post by: makjoh on July 28, 2017, 07:33:46 AM
Some info that may be of use...........The radio cassette on my 1997 K1100 LT stopped working. So a little internet browsing led me to the clarion manual. Checked the fuse on the main fuse box as advised and it was in order. Next step was the fuse on the clarion unit itself. That meant dismantling the whole unit from the fairing and carrier and frame holder e.t.c ......very time consuming. And hey presto....that fuse was ok!
Hmmmmmmm. Next step was a check on the radio using an independent power source. Radio worked!. So out came the multimeter and checked for power at the cable on the bike......dead......nothing.....no voltage. Shit......I had visions of masses of wiring trying to find the short.
But before that another browse at the clarion radio manual...........hmmmmm some differing info.......the manual on motobrick and everywhere else states it is fuse number 5 (which was ok) this new (old) manual states fuse number 8........Oh no it cant be.......please dont make me out to be an idiot by not having checked ALL fuses first......yep......fuse 8 was the culprit. At least half the day wasnt wasted dismantling everything. Learning and experienced gained......most useful of which.....check ALL fuses first.  :musicboohoo: :hehehe :hehehe

FYI the radio uses 2 power circuits.
Fuse #5 is the main battery power, for memory retention.(also supplies source power to the key switch)
Fuse #8 is for the on/off circuit that comes from the key switch.

Thanks scott....pity they didn't mention that in the radio instruction manual, and even more pity on the fool that didn't check all the fuses in the first place
