Title: ABS1 repair
Post by: heller on July 16, 2017, 11:28:42 PM
I have a 1993 k1100rs.  ABS was not working.  A seasoned BMW mechanic advised me the brain was dead.  Not so after I sent it to JAPAN for a fix.  One relay, and de-ox-it later and it is working like a charm.  Slow and steady renewal of all sensor connections.  So satisfying.  Nothing like solving your own ABS troubles.

I sold the ABS from my K100 that had 100,000+ on it to Filmcamera and it is working on his bike now.  I am not surprised at how robust these systems are.

For future reference, where did you send your ABS brain for repair?

I'm probably going to get into trouble with someone for revisiting old threads.

But I promise only to pick good ones!!

Anyway, the guy in Japan seems still to be in business, at least his website is still up.

FYI, if you have done the LED diagnosis with the middle blue plug and seven blinks tells you it's the brain, and you've done about 40 resets and the lights still flash - you can still find functioning brains on ebay. I got one sent from France for around $215.00 CDN postage included and connected it where the old computer was and after one reset -- no more blinking red lights! Yaay!

I tried to lock up my rear wheel on gravel last week and it wouldn't lock, just went clunk - clunk - clunk which was funny because the freqency on the old ABS 1.5 (ABS1) is so much slower than in modern cars. But still: did not lock up the wheel.

I was however, not sufficiently courageous to try out the front wheel.
