Well the driveshaft is pretty much shot (and I am not going to post any more painful pictures here...), but I need an opinion rearing the wear on this final drive. I can see that the splines are notched, but I am looking for an opinion regarding just mating this up with another used driveshaft (available for reasonable amounts of money) rather than spending $750-$1,000 for a FD rebuild and new driveshaft.

those splines at that field of view look good...
would need dead on photos of all components to formulate an educated opinion on your spline situation...
mating already worn splines will accelerate additional wear... so a low mile matted set is what id be looking for...

They are stepped pretty bad... as Johnny says, mating a good set of splines to bad will make both bad quickly. I wouldn't do it, myself.

Well after some research there is really no way around this... one way or another I end up at about $900. I will have my final drive rebuilt in Oregon and purchase a new driveshaft. I did find a nice used final drive but at a $550 asking price it's not much of a deal! Everything on eBay is pretty trashed. Appears the Bruno's solution in Canada is no longer an option.

id buy a new brick before i would spend that kinda dough...
sell yours as a low miles one owner with all oem recommended maintenance performed by master technicians at local dealers...

I would ride it till it gives up the ghost while constantly looking for a used bargain.
If I can get an entire gearbox for $120 I am sure that well priced driveshafts and final drives come up once in a while.
