Title: Rescue Tape Review
Post by: mystic red on September 11, 2011, 12:30:40 PM
I didn't use this stuff on the bike but I will have a roll in the bung as I saw for myself it's healing properties.
I was an hour and a half in the woods on a fire road in my F250 Super Duty pulling a 25 foot 5th wheel when a fitting to the transmission cooler sprung a pretty good leak. After trying to wrench it tight with no luck my buddy says try this stuff (http://www.rescuetape.com/?gclid=CKypgPTKlasCFQh0gwod5BP1ug). I didn't have much faith the tape was going to work as the line and fitting were covered in slick tranny fluid but read the directions and applied it. Started the truck and no leak! Checked the fluid and it was still full. I must have caught it just as it started leaking.
I continued to periodically check it pulling the trailer until I was satisfied that it wasn't going to leak and drove it like that for two days until I could get it to the shop that had installed the tranny cooler. This ch!t is awesome.

Thought of this talking to Johnny about his brake line leak. Not a doubt in my mind it would have healed that brake line.

Rescue Tape . . .

• Is Self-Fusing!
• Incredible 950 PSI Tensile Strength!
• Insulates 8,000 Volts per layer!
• Withstands 500° F Degrees of heat!
• Remains flexible to -85° F! (-60° C)

We use this stuff at work (space propulsion company, no, I'm not kidding) and it's great. We use it primarily for high voltage applications, but the stuff is fairly versatile. I'd check places like McMaster Carr for silicone tape to see if you get better pricing on the industrial stuff (not sure what they charge for the Rescue branded stuff). Good call M.R.

I went to FleaBay and found lots listed.

This guy used to have 6 listed. Now he's down to 3. ;D

One for truck, one for bike, and one for home. They say the fix is permanent.
It's a 12 foot roll for 7 bucks. Rescue tape branded is $24 for 2 rolls on their site.
It's important to know that when you apply it you stretch it 2x it's length so each roll is the equivalent of a 24 foot roll.

I got three rolls (different colors) at the IMS in Long Beach a couple of years ago.
I think I paid $20 for them - "show pricing".
That pack stays with the MotoBoxer all the time, no matter what.

My buddy, a TV engineer that fixes EVERYTHING with Gaffer's Tape, was so impressed he bought a couple of rolls for himself !!  :o

Well, with the R bikes you might need three rolls but I'm just going to pack one, just in case. ;D

That was cold, Scott......  :-[

With all the moving around I seem to be doing lately, at least I know where they are.... ;)

Now you've probably jinxed me and I'll have to put them in the truck - the MotoBoxer still has warranty coverage (including 1-800-ComeGetMe), the truck doesn't... :-[
