Title: DS/FD Meltdown
Post by: John Lang on July 07, 2017, 01:56:37 PM

(1987 K75C, type code 0564.

[/size]Does anyone know a rebuilder of FD and DS or a source for used parts? My DS rear splines are cooked while the pinion splines on the FD are in poor shape. I am unable to locate a used FD on beemerboneyard or eBay. My local BMW service center does not accept bikes built before 2000 (!).

I spoke to famous FD/DS re-builder, Bruno Sax, who is out of action for a few more months pending recovery from health issues. Bruno said I might get 30,000 km out of a new or rebuilt DS fitted to the existing FD (vs 150,000 km if fitted to new FD splines). Beemershop.com offers their after-market DS for US$349 and that might be worth ruining in 30,000KM but it would be nice to get an affordable FD. Ideas welcome.

The transmission output splines are fine. I have photos of all splines but previous attempts to attach them have resulted in error 500 (unable to do what you want us to do).

Suggestions appreciated.

I bought a good shape used shaft from him for a good price.

My new ds was noticeably starting to get chewed up after only 200 miles married to a bad fd spline.  Don't do it.  Get new ds from Ted and send your fd to virginia motorad.  I had mine done there.  Very happy.  Bike shifts are SOOOO much smoother without all the worn part slop in the system.

Thanks mlytle. But I do not see Virginia Motorrad in the Interwebs. Could you provide a contact point?
