WTB: '93 K11RS seat hardware
« on: November 25, 2024, 10:54:44 AM »
Anyone have the seat hardware from a '93 K11RS that they no longer need? I have one that a previous owner had "fixed" and not sure everything else is correct as my seat has never truly fit properly.

Thank you, Shaun

Hey, Shaun. Post a photo showing the bike on one side or the other at seat-level with the seat in position and both the tank and the tail cowl in the frame. If there are part numbers on the seat pan let us have them, too.

Laitch, Here are the first two. I'll work on the other here shortly.

When I bought the bike it had the stock seat and it was a bit funky as I remember, but when I bought the used Sargent it got worse... I think. Been a busy family time the past two years with my parents. thinking I had the wrong pan on the sargent, I had an upholstry shop swap them... now it's just confusion :)

thanks, Shaun

That seat doesn't look like it would ever fit your bike properly. The back profile seems to be right but even if you got that to fit  the front wouldn't fit. The nose of the seat looks too narrow and the front lower edge of the seat doesn't match the frame angle. I thought it might have been off a BMW R bike but I couldn't find anything that seems to match. You may have to get another seat. :tinhat2:

Good photo work!

To affirm and also add to Martin's astute observation:
eBay is crammed with labeling errors of Brick parts. It appears to me that your Sargent seat is mounted on a K100 2V seat pan. K1100 seat pan has a different pattern in its molded surface, differing hinge pin locations and a differing seat profile. The rear hinge pin barrel of the Sargent seat you now have is actually a lock hasp adapted to replace the original stamped barrel piece because the original mount was cracked apart. It's ingenious but unlikely to provide optimal fit even if the seat pan were mounted on the correct type of Brick.

This photo shows a K100 2V pan. Note how it pin hinge locations, entire surface molding, and seat contour forward of the latch pin differ from those of the K1100 pan in the photo below it. Some of the differences are indicated by red outlines. Perhaps frankenduck, a member here with a garage full of salvage Bricks, will chime in on this.

Martin $ Laitch.... Those are great bits of info guys. So I went and grabbed the other seat&pan...looks like it's the correct pan (which originally came with the sargent.. but that I switched) I think the real problem seems to be my hinges are both incorrect. right?

I don't see any hinges  177381 but I see possibility that you could make this all work.

All the hinges, hinge mounts, and post catches (latches) seem to be transferable from one of your seat pans to the other. Go to the Seat section of Max BMW's K1100 parts fiche—Diagram #52_3683—and determine what you need after transferring parts from the pan that doesn't fit to the pan that does fit. The K1100 possibly might need a few different parts but after a cursory review, most of the parts for both pans I viewed in the fiche have the same part numbers so that means they'll work.

How about a photo of the cowl plate onto which the seat will be mounted?

I can shoot that picture... I did hop onto Max last night... since they had the two hinges there, I went ahead and made the order. I have that one piece that is all bent up and welded. and there is some difference in the design of     52 53 2 307 568  vs what I have, so just did it for insurance and so I can move forward (hopefully! ha!) I also looked over at Kparts Holland, didn't see everything I felt was needed.

I'm also moving ahead with a repaint as the previous owners had been a bit careless with gravity and she'd has some driveway rash on her. Between beemerboneyard, e-bay, Max, I have a few NOS panels that are primed and ready for paint. Then just needs some nice miles! :)

Carelessness with gravity certainly can bring a person down.  :laughing4-giggles:

Discard that feckin bent up and weld lock hasp, or use it on a door! Please post a photo showing what you have that differs from what you ordered from Max.

I think this is what you wanted to see?

Also viewing/shopping motorworks.co.uk as they seem to have a lot of tidbits (screws, nuts, grommets, buffers, clips, etc.)

A line drawing of a part in the BMW parts fiche often applies to different models; also BMW often modifies parts during production. They don't necessarily update drawings to reflect this because that could get labor-intensive. The part you're ordering might slightly differ in configuration from the one depicted in the drawing but it will perform the same function.

Max BMW sends a package M&Ms or Sour Patch Kids with each order. They act as assembly stress-relievers. I've ordered a couple of items from motorworks. Not only was no candy provided, they didn't even send a card encouraging me to "Keep a stiff upper lip and carry on."

All makes sense. Just hoping that the "new" pieces are in spec. I'm guessing after 30+ years that besides the one we see that's been "modified" that this will bring it back into spec. This is just part of buying an older bike. A friend recently commented when I brought up the K12RS... I'm done with old bikes, I just want to buy new. He has a K75 with more than 250K miles on it and his wife has a /5 with something similar.

Thanks again. I'll update how the parts and my wrenching work out... Happy Thanksgiving to those who do!
